Now, there's a big debate on how frequent one should be washing their hair for premium health. I personally have to wash my hair as frequently as every day, or sometimes every other and sport and up do pony on the second day if I must. It's very unhealthy for the scalp to not be washed for more then 3 days at the most. I know some points of beauty reference state that it's ok to even go a week if you have dry hair. The truth of the matter is that the hair becomes like that because the scalp is not being cleansed properly and as frequent as it's healthy for it to be. I personally don't like the look or feel of it on the second day so I wash it daily. For primitive health we must also remember to give the heating tools a break here and there in order to allow the hair to breathe. This is not an easy thing for me to do, but at least 1 day a week, let your hair air dry and do a reconstructing deep conditioning mask.
So to start off the healing process, the best thing to do is to cut off all the damage (in my case it was 5 inches) and to start again. Aveda has been with me from day one of my intense road to recovery and to happy and healthy tresses again. These products have made a world of a difference for me. I started to see a drastic improvement in the overall health of my hair within the first week and it's even growing faster then when I was having it processed with bleach so often.
There are a few products on the market that are real miracle workers and Aveda is at the top of that list for me. Most of the products I use are from the Damage Remedy line such as the reconstructing shampoo + conditioner, and my all time favorite beauty product the damage remedy reconstructing conditioner. For the styling, I love the Pure Abundance prep spray. As a heat protector I use the Brilliant Damage Control spray. You can see a noticeable difference in the softness and feel of your hair from the first time you use these products. I also like to do a deep conditioning treatment using 100% pure coconut oil once a week. That repairs the hair shaft from the inside out.
My final step was going to the Dorjon Aveda Salon here in Boca and getting my hair matched precisely to my natural dark brown color. It was done 6 months prior at another salon, but my previous hair color was fading. Their colorist/stylist Ashley did an amazing job and I was very happy with the color match that she achieved. Here is their facebook page if you want to make an appointment for yourself - Dorjon Aveda Salon Town Center Mall. It feels great to go back to the color that God gave me. I've been tempted quite a few times to just add some subtle highlights. But then I would recall that every time I did that, I would eventually end up becoming way lighter then I should be in order to maintain the health and integrity of my hair. Breakage would always be following that decision shortly after. So, if you are in hair rehab yourself from over processing now or are thinking of ways to bring your hair back to life, then look no further then your nearest Aveda store. Their hair color is superior to anything else out there and way healthier for you hair. Wishing you all great hair days ahead because we all know that you can never really have a bad day when your hair looks amazing!
